I arrived in Havana May 17 to continue working on the opera with composer Roberto Valera and music director Zenaida Romeu, founding director of the all-women’s chamber orchestra, Camerata Romeu). I was there for a week.
By my second day Roberto, Zenaida and I met twice. We discussed plans to move the project forward in general. And how we should focus our attention in this week we have together.
We will thoroughly review and discuss the revised libretto. And then talk through concepts for the remaining music which Roberto will begin writing.
It’s very exciting to be here again, engaged with my creative partners, and building to the next level.
We shared appetizers and drinks as the sun set over the Straits of Florida and the Malecon.
