  1. Hello Charles,

I want to first congratulate you on the overwhelming accomplishment you’ve just achieved. I had hoped to be in Cuba to see it but was timing did not work out. I know how difficult projects of any scale are in Cuba – let alone opera-sized. I am an independent film-maker and producer as well as being Cuban. I chuckled when I read in your blog that you were posting from your “office” at the 2nd story of Parque Central. It seems we share “office” space.

I have also been working on a dually natured project over the last year. I am the founder of Cuba’s first gay men’s chorus Mano a Mano. And I’m in the process of filming a documentary about the entire project.

Like you I have been fascinated with ISA for many years. Just a few months ago we filmed several scenes for the documentary in the abandoned “circus” school. In fact, I have the only aerial film footage of the place that I am aware of. I would love to connect with you and show you some of what we filmed when you have time. I value exchanges of ideas with others that love Cuba and understand it many nuances. I reside in Florida and Massachusetts, but am in Cuba every month also.

I would also love to invite you to an upcoming performance of Mano a Mano in Cuba. They will be performing with the Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington DC in July. This is the first exchange of it’s type. You can find me on FB or see some of our work on FB (Mano a Mano, Alumbrones, DKR Films). I’m very excited for the future of “Cubanacan” it is a very beautiful work.

    Un abrazo y felicidades,

    Fermin Rojas

    • Thanks Fermin, for your comment. And for the information about Mano a Mano. Best of luck with it.
